Today, we're going to help your rankings continue to go higher with adding schema markup to them
0:07
In this video, I'm going to show you how to go through and add schema markup to an article
0:13
and I'm going to actually do it on WildFog, and I'll probably do several examples to give you an idea
0:18
Yeah, it's going to help. What is schema markup? Schema markup was created in 2011 by Google, Bing, Yahoo, and later Yandex
0:28
and basically it is code to tell the Google search engines or the search engines exactly what is on your page that you have
0:38
It's very good idea to have the article schema markup on all of your pages
0:43
And then there's also some other ones. The main ones that I find for my niches are FAQ schema and how to schema
0:52
Those are important ones. If you have a website like a recipe blog
0:58
this is a must. Because not only does it go through and do these things
1:03
it also makes your search results look better. And if you're doing a recipe, it's all about how it looks
1:10
And a lot of times you'll be able to add pictures and as you go and be able to see the steps
1:16
For example, for the how-to, I can add a picture for every time. And then I could say, this is what you do on this step
1:22
Here's a picture of this. Then you do this. Here's a picture of this. And by doing this, it really does help Google go ahead and pick us up better
1:31
And it will push us to the top, let's hope. It is proven that having schema markup does increase your website rankings and, you know, the stability of your site
1:43
I also wanted to mention this is huge for eat. I know you're hearing eat all the time
1:48
And I'm going to be doing more eat to my websites to get them better
1:52
the E basically stands for expertise. And a lot of people are like, oh, that's, you know, basically you're a doctor if you're in a health
2:00
niche and stuff like that. It's not really that. At the moment, expertise is just confirming you're a real person
2:07
So by going through and putting author schema on here, it helps to go through and show who
2:13
you are, who that author is. Now, you're going to want to do other things like create an about page, a team page, a bio
2:21
page, you know, for the author and make sure you have social links so you can prove that you are a
2:27
real person because that is mainly what expertise is all about. This is huge if you're an affiliate
2:32
marketing. If it's just an info site, it's not as important at the moment, but if you are selling
2:38
something and recommending something, you need to hit eat and I'm learning that more and more
2:43
So with that, I'm going to go through and add these so I can establish and I build up that
2:48
expertise. Yeah, is it really hard? Not the way I'm doing it. So I'll show you two ways. I'll show you the
2:54
easy way and the hard way. The easy way obviously is with a plug-in and the harder way is going through
3:02
and doing code. Not that it's hard, it's just more time-consuming. But I'll show you both ways
3:07
in this video and if you aren't doing this, I would suggest to do this. Remember, I'm still new in the
3:15
blogging area technically, you know, maybe, I mean, I've been making websites all my life off and on
3:21
but for the last probably like five years or so, four or five years, I've been concentrating more
3:26
on blogs. So I learn more all the time and it looks like schema is something important to do
3:34
So let's go ahead and get started. A lot of the information for schema can be found on schema.org. There are a lot of the information for schema can be found on schema.org. There are a lot of
3:45
of different other types of schema that are available. And one of the most popular is the review
3:51
where you actually have a star rating. The star ratings are nice because they actually show up on the
3:56
Google page when you're going through and searching. You might see a product with stars. That's them
4:03
using schema. So going here, I can find FAQs on this article and this would be great for an FAQ schema
4:11
to be set up. So to do a schema, what you would need to do is go to something, just Google
4:18
creating schema. And here you can create stuff. You could choose FAQ page, and then it'll be like
4:24
question one. And here we're going to take the first question. We're going to put it here
4:29
And we're going to go to the answer. And then we're going to put it here. And then we could
4:37
hit add question or this is our script here. JSON is the popular one and that's the one that
4:45
Google likes the most from my understanding so that's what they're going through by default
4:50
And you hit copy to copy this and then you would put this inside your code. So you would hit copy
4:57
I would go in here under edit post I can go ahead and change this to code editor. So then we
5:07
can go to the header section and just paste it in. So this can be time-consuming because you're
5:13
going to have to do this for FAQ and then you're also going to have to do it for an article one
5:17
If we switch back to article, this would all need to be set up. You'd get all this information
5:27
and it's a lot, you know, article type, what type of article is it? You know, the URL for the
5:33
article, the headline, the image, you know, author name, and there's a lot here. So this does take
5:41
time. However, this is the way that you can do it for free. If you want to go ahead and do it with a
5:50
plugin, which is mainly what I'm going to show you today, is schema pro. That's what I would do
5:57
I did go ahead and get schema pro, and I'll have a link down below if you are interested because I am an
6:02
affiliate and it'll give you the best deal you can get with my link. If you go to the site
6:07
it'll give you a breakdown of how much it costs. The one that I went with is the annual one
6:14
the schema pro here, $59, and that's for the first year. And then after that, it would go to $79
6:23
However, from my understanding, you can cancel it after the first year. You just don't get the new
6:29
updates. So you can still use it just in its older form. could also do lifetime and be done
6:35
And I would have probably got the 174 except a little tight on money right now
6:40
So hopefully next year I'll be able to upgrade to that. And this does give unlimited website usage
6:47
So you could use this on multiple sites, which is great. So you don't have to get the big one to cover all of your sites
6:55
So let's go and set up the plugin. So we are here
6:59
If you purchase it, you'll be able to download the plugin. you would do that and then you would just go to plugins add new I'm going to go ahead and choose
7:09
upload plugin and I'll choose my file once your file's chosen just hit install now activate
7:19
and it'll say up here you got to use the setup wizard so we'll click setup wizard and here it's
7:25
going to take us through the general information we're going to go ahead and choose start for this section
7:32
this website represents, I do organization, and then I just leave General Other, and our logo
7:38
automatically came in, which is great. We can go choose the next. Here it's going to ask for
7:43
social profiles Right now I don have any for Wildfog We haven done a social setup of anything so this is going to be pretty bare We just going to go ahead and go next here it going to talk about what we want by defaults select the about page about us contact page contact us select the menu we going to choose our main menu enable site link search boxes they say to do these so i will do both of these you could always check
8:19
the guides if you want more on their documentation. Here it's going to say you're all done. Let's
8:26
create your first schema. Once you do that, it's going to come to here. And here's where you can go
8:30
ahead and choose them. So these are all the different schemas you can create. The one we want to do
8:35
first, which is the easiest one, is the article schema, because we can bang out article schema across
8:41
the whole website just by going through and doing this. So we'll go and choose article. We'll go
8:48
and choose next. Select target pages. We're going to go all posts. All Singulars is basically all posts and
8:58
pages combined. And then this is all posts. This is all pages. And then if you want to do a specific
9:04
post, which we're going to do for some of the other ones, that's how you would do the others
9:09
But we just want them on our posts. We don't want them on our pages at the moment. I'm just going to
9:13
do the posts. And if you need to exclude anything, you could always choose this information
9:18
too but we don't need anything here for us so we'll go and choose next and go to
9:24
complete setup this is gonna bring you here and you're gonna see up here activate
9:30
your copy of schema pro so we forgot to do that try to do that in the beginning
9:35
because sometimes it doesn't take if you don't do this first so we'll go and
9:41
open it up it's gonna ask for the code for the pro go ahead and put that in if
9:47
If you don't have it, just log into the website where you just purchased it and once you are in
9:55
so once you're logged in here and you purchased it, you just go to account and licenses and now give you the code
10:01
Of course, I can't show you on the screen. So now that we get the license out of the way, we can go ahead and set the rest of this up
10:09
We already did all of this. So this is going to bring you to your quick links
10:13
And what's going on here is it's looking at the required features. it's taking them from certain areas. So the article type, it's going to be a general article. You can
10:22
click here and look at what you want. I just left it article general at this point. Blog posting is there
10:30
if you'd like, but I felt it's more of just a general article, so I'm going to leave it there
10:35
Author name, author name, URL, URL, image featured image, short description takes from the excerpt
10:42
The URL is going to take from the permalink. The headline's going to take from the title, the published dates
10:47
going to take from the published date and you kind of get the idea. So this is all hot linking to
10:52
everything and the reason this is important is because it's just going to do it automatically for you
10:57
You don't have to go through each page. You just do this. You hit update and now we are updating
11:03
the whole website with this information. So now all of my articles have article schema set up on it
11:13
Now they're not all this easy because some are different and you have to do them in
11:17
individually per page, but this is a good start to get going
11:22
I mean, how many articles do I have on this page? I have 83
11:27
So I would have had to do article schema code 83 times
11:32
Not to mention if something changes in the future, what's going to happen
11:36
I'm going to have to go back and change that schema. But with this plugin, if I change it, it's going to automatically change because it's set up with those links
11:44
So the plug-in's pretty much a no-brainer for me because it's going to help in the future
11:53
when I make changes and I forget about things because you know you can't always remember everything
11:58
when you're adding articles and if I forget about the article schema, not a big deal because I'm covered
12:04
So here we go. We're going to go through and set this up now. I've put my articles in reverse
12:10
so I get to the first ones first that I've ever published
12:13
so we're going to be doing some, updates on the way. So I'm going to go ahead and open this. I'm going to edit it and open it in a new
12:19
link. And we're going to get out of code mode because we don't need that anymore. We'll go to
12:26
visual. And what I'm going to do is I'm going to scan this, but I'm also going to make changes to my
12:31
table of contents because I don't like that the width is custom. It cuts off on mobile. So this is
12:39
something I've been wanting to fix for a while. So I'm going to go ahead and click that. And I'm also
12:44
going to keep it collapsed initially because I feel like it's just in the way. So I'm hoping this
12:51
will clear it up and make everything look a little nicer. And that's all I have to do on that
12:56
We're going to scroll through and look for the FAQ section. Okay, there's not specific FAQs
13:05
It's just general information. What else am I looking for? I'm looking for. I'm looking for. I'm
13:09
for how to it's not really a how to so I think this is fine so this one no updates need to be done
13:17
we just update the table contents and that's all so I'll update that there I'm gonna leave the
13:24
date because I didn't change anything other than the table contents so let's go to the next one
13:31
Hayes versus fog machines just looking to see what you can do is look in your table
13:36
content see if there's an FAQ I don't see one here. I don't see a how-to. So I think this one's going to be another one where I don't
13:45
really have to add much. I do like going through each one as I go though. I also forgot I have
13:52
to disable the marker. For some reason if you don't disable the marker, it doesn't work on mobile
13:57
Okay, let me go through some posts and I will find an FAQ and let you know when I'm ready
14:01
And we found a huge FAQ here. The FAQ is not so hard to do. And you might have seen things similar
14:09
to this. Or you just go here, you type in FAQ, and you see I do have other ones. And I have
14:16
used these other ones before because, you know, they create schema markup for my site and they
14:22
were free. Well, guess what? None of them actually did the schema markup. They just
14:28
looked like schema markup. So that was kind of upsetting. And I can show you that now, before we
14:35
even do this. When we're in this page, they have a cool thing that says test schema. So we can click
14:41
test schema. It's going to put the link in, hit enter automatically. Now we just wait, and we're
14:45
going to see what schema is currently on this page. Here we go. There's three items detected
14:51
Remember, we added the article to every page. So this page has the article. Remember we added
14:56
breadcrumbs. It has that. And it has site link search box. So it has the three that we've added
15:02
Where's the FAQ? There isn't one. So whatever plugin this was that said it's schema markup, it's not
15:11
So we need to go ahead and create the real one. To do this with schema plus, you just do FAQ and you'll see schema Pro and we'll click there
15:21
And it's basically the same idea. I usually count how many there are
15:24
This is a lot of FAQs. I usually like to have three to five, but this site has a lot more
15:30
So there's 11. So all you do is hit the plus for a third one. You click the top twice
15:35
and then you can hit a plus again and I'll just continue doing this until I have my 11
15:41
all right we got our 11 we click on the first one and the way to do this is very similar you know you copy it I just do Control X because I want to be deleting this as I go And I go in here highlight this Control V
15:57
Now they bolded this and I want to unbolt this because the markup language does show in the schema and I think it looks bad
16:04
So I rather not have code. I rather have it as easy as it can be
16:09
So I don't want it to be bold. And I'll go here and I'll grab the answer here
16:14
I'll exit and I'll paste. All of these have an extra space at the start for some reason and at the end, but we will fix that as we do this
16:32
Excited to be getting schema up on this. I'll do the rest and fast forward as you get this
16:43
as you get the general idea. I miss counted. Who knew that I miscounted? Can we remove just one
17:43
duplicate this and then I'm going to remove it because I don't want to mess it up
17:53
Yep, that's how you do it. Sweet. Now I can remove this whole block. Yeah, it'll say child. Got it. So we can get rid of this whole mess here that has never been
18:07
schema, but we thought was. And now we have our new schema. I like giving it. I like
18:13
a little touch of color I like going over here and just doing the border of
18:23
orange and I like to keep the first one open expand first item and let's update it
18:34
so now table of contents we'll go to our FAQs here they are and you can see we can open
18:42
them look good and the other one broke from time to time so this is much better because sometimes
18:53
free ones just aren't good enough so now what we can do is test the schema so let's go ahead and
18:58
test again now we've already tested this one but not since we've added our new FAQs let's see if
19:04
they're showing okay and boom four items detected so this is awesome now we have our FAQ showing we can
19:12
click on FAQs and it'll bring it up here you can go here and it'll say what is the
19:19
microfiber 10 reasons you may need one FAQ page and then it has the questions and
19:25
answers can a micro blogger trigger a smoke alarm if your micro blogger produces blah
19:31
blah blah blah you can see the code over here and you can always mess with it if you're
19:37
into that but we don't need to do this because this is already done for us so all of this
19:42
is nice and neat. Now if I kept this bold you'd have bold tags around the question and things like
19:47
that so I keep the formatting just as it is to make sure it doesn't get bogged down. That'll also go with
19:54
skipping spaces. If you skip spaces, you'll have some code in there or if there's a link like you
20:01
could see here there is a link in this one. However, I'm going to leave the link because I don't like to
20:07
mess with the links and internal linking. But everything else I try to
20:11
do at a minimum for that. So that's the FAQ. That one's very easy to add and those are probably
20:19
going to be the two that you do the most. Now when we go back to our page, we can say this one's
20:25
checked off. So now maybe it's time to go ahead and do a how to. So there's a one, a few down that says
20:32
how to clean a fog machine in five easy steps. Let's open this in a new window and take a look. And
20:40
yeah five steps great I like when it your article has it step by step because it makes the how
20:50
to's so much easier so we'll do is go on schema pro here and now we just want to do add new
20:55
now it's going to come up to here and we want to choose what we want to do and these are all
21:02
the items you can do so far I have done on my main site I've done articles I've done FAQs and
21:09
how-toes. They also do have reviews which will give you the star ratings, which I haven't done yet
21:14
but basically you do need something else like a product on the page, so you do need schema product
21:19
code on there. And if you have the scheme of product code, then you can do the review. Keep in mind
21:26
it can't be your own product. If you're selling the product specifically, they don't want you to do that
21:33
It's against the terms. So here we're going to do how to. And if you were doing
21:39
recipe or video object it would be the same ideas here it's going to say where we're
21:46
reducing a specific one because this isn't one we can do on all the pages at once because it's
21:51
specific to this how to how to how to clean a fog machine in five easy steps and we'll go
22:00
and go next complete it's going to bring this up here this is all fine we can go ahead and
22:09
and go to our post. How to Clean a Fog Machine is what I do is I copy the title
22:20
I'll go to the schema section and I'm going to name this like this
22:25
Because each how to is going to be its own code. So now I know this how to goes to this article
22:31
And then I can go and choose update. It's now going to be on my page
22:36
So I can go in here and refresh. What I'll do is I'll pop up a preview window as well
22:41
So I'll go through here because you're going to go to the bottom to find it
22:45
So it's at the very bottom here. We can grab it and move it up
22:50
I like to have it right at the bottom because it's the thing I use the most
22:56
Here we go. Now schema Pro is going to show you all the schema that's available on this page
23:00
So you can see the article ones already here. We can click on the article. We can change this
23:04
So if there's something on the article schema you want changed, you would just hit the X and then type it in and then hit save and you're updated
23:12
But we're on the how to one now. So we're here. It's going to automatically grab the title for the name and the description is just going to grab the content
23:21
Now it's going to ask for materials, tools, time, and steps. So what I do now is I go into my preview window and I go to the five steps and I get an idea if there's how long this would take
23:35
So you need ingredients you need to prepare it you need to actually clean it knowing what to clean and then it cleaned So what we do is we grab the first step copy this i usually do the steps first i just feel it easier and then i would just grab this
23:55
you can do a URL to the step so if you have these steps broken down even more you can go through
24:01
and link to them they'll give you even more credit but i don't usually do that it's not required the
24:08
The good thing about this program is the ones with the stars are required and they tell
24:12
you that. A lot of the coding ones you're going to use where you're doing it page by page don't always
24:17
tell you which ones are required. So it kind of gets a little messy
24:21
So we'll go here and we'll grab our next one and we're going to go ahead and choose add down
24:26
here and we're just going to label the next one and I go back, I grab the content, I paste
24:33
it and now I'm going to do that for all the steps. And we're going to even add the last one, even though it's kind of saying it's basically done already
24:51
So now that we have the steps, we go up here and we go look at materials and tools
24:56
Now I need to read through here to find out what they are. All right, distilled water is going to be one
25:02
That's going to be a material. And reading through here, the only thing we really need is the distilled water
25:08
So we'll just put distilled water. We don't really need any tools from what it's saying
25:13
And it's going to say total time. This is rough because you can't do like a frame
25:18
You got to pick something. So looking at this, you're basically flushing it with, you know, distilled water
25:25
You know, probably 15 minutes, I would say, for the average person
25:29
And this is pretty good. So remember, if your title, if your how to does not match your title, you definitely want to
25:34
X this and put it. But with ours, we're pretty good because we have
25:38
of how to clean a fog machine in five easy steps. And that is basically the area that we're putting
25:45
Sometimes I have more than one how to in an area and I've tried adding more than one how to
25:51
However, I got errors. So I would be cautious on that. I'm still not sure if it's okay to do that or not
25:57
So now I've just been doing the primary one. So I just pick one how to and put it in here
26:03
So now that we got this all set up, we would go ahead and update and we got everything
26:08
you know tools is not required either are the pictures or the URLs so you don't need it however
26:15
it's definitely going to help if you have pictures of breaking down a fog machine and you put those in
26:20
here you're probably going to jump up on google because you actually did it and took actually
26:26
your own pictures you know so they know that and i've done that with another website where i
26:32
took my own pictures and that article does so good even though there are others ahead of it
26:38
because I have my own personal original content. So now we updated it
26:43
We'll go through and refresh. And next we're going to test schema
26:47
I test schema every time I add something because it's important. Because if you make a mistake, there could be problems
26:56
Now, schema Pro also has a setting where it says if you have an issue with your schema, just
27:02
remove the schema. It's up to you if you want to select that. It's probably a good idea
27:06
I don't think I have. but while that runs we can look here real quick go to schema pro you can see our new one here
27:13
plug-in settings and here skip rendering and valid schema so if you have problems boom there you go
27:24
you could also add a default image and you can see where this the options you have can also
27:30
regenerate so if you're having problems you can hit regenerate however the only time i had a problem was
27:35
when I didn't put my code in quick enough and I went through and did stuff so I did delete the
27:41
schema and redo the article because I didn't have my pro code in at that time. Let's go back to the
27:47
test results here. So now we do have the how to added on here and you can see there is a non-critical
27:53
issue detected. If we click on that it basically means it's nothing of real importance. We can click here
27:59
and it says how to clean a fog machine five of these steps. The description is going to be the whole
28:03
article and then we're going to break it down here and it's going to say what to supply and then we can go
28:12
through the steps ingredients need to clean what you have how to directions and then prepare the fog
28:20
machine and we didn't number these i don't know if that's important to do or not it looks like
28:27
from what i'm seeing probably it'd be easier to follow if they were numbered so let me go back and just
28:33
number them real quick. I believe I did number them on my other site. I did the same thing. I did it
28:39
without the numbers and then I went back and added them. It'll just make it easier to follow
28:49
And now that we updated them, we can test the schema again. And let's go and look at that now
28:57
Here we go. Now we have the steps numbered. One ingredients needed to clean, prepare. I think it looks
29:03
much better that way. So with this, we're not going to see an increase instantly. You know
29:07
it's going to take a little while. I'm going to let Google just track these and put it up
29:12
I am curious if it's going to go ahead and help our site out. There are a lot more to do, a lot more
29:17
posts. You know, I have 83 posts. I'm going to go through them all and do the how-toes
29:22
And I'm also going to do the FAQs and the regular schema article is already in there
29:30
I'll probably then take a look more at the product schema and see if I can add the product schema to
29:36
my buyer's guides. So I can go in here, for example, the low lying and see if I can add product
29:43
schema. I need to read up a little more on the product schema because I don't know if you can add
29:47
multiple. Again, I'm stuck with that. I need to figure that out. And if I can, you know, I'll be
29:54
fine. I'll do three. And then I'll do a review for each one if I could do that. And that will give me
29:59
a star rating as people go through to the site and put a star rating. So again, this is schema
30:05
pro. You can see they have a lot of people that do support them and works really well. And it's
30:12
with Brainstorm product. You could check that out. Here's the different packages that I was mentioning
30:18
Again, I just got the smaller one. I didn't get the bundle because I feel that's good enough because
30:21
they'll cover all my websites and I don't need anything insane. I don't need a lot of the extras. I don't
30:27
do Elementor or any page builders anymore. I got those removed because they're just too much
30:33
and I like to have a stripped down version of WordPress the best I can
30:38
other than maybe having too many plugins at times. So that's schema Pro
30:42
Again, if you're interested, I'm an affiliate. I have a link down below. Definitely does help me when people use my links
30:47
It lets me do more reviews on other plugins and services. And I have others I would like to cover as well
30:54
It's just, you know, I need to first get the money to purchase them. and then I can do the reviews. So it definitely does help out. And any discounts I have will
31:02
go automatically once you click the link. I do want to thank you so much for the view. If you have
31:07
any questions, comments, or you want to teach me something because, again, as I said, I'm still new
31:12
to this industry in terms of SEO. Let me know down below in the comments. I'd really appreciate it
31:19
Thank you. And here's a video of our last income report so you can see how everything's going
