I'm going to show you how I create an album on Spotify
0:03
Pretty awesome. And we're going to go ahead and get started right away. I'm going to take you through a few things
0:08
I'm going to show you the financial part, how much money I make. I'm going to kind of give you a brief idea of how much money I've spent
0:15
my album information, and we're going to work on uploading a new album
0:20
which is going to be technically album five. We have one like two track album that we started with in the very beginning
0:26
So technically be my fourth full length album. which will have 12 tracks and we'll go over all of that. So with that, let's go ahead and dive
0:35
right in. Here we are with my music on Spotify. Stream Lo-Fi is the name that's Verified Artist
0:43
I've been working on this. I started earlier this year, so it's still new. April, I believe I started
0:48
this and I have a good amount of songs already, good amount of tracks. And I really enjoy doing
0:56
this because not only can it generate some money on Spotify, but I also have music to use in any of
1:02
my videos if I feel like it. If I ever want to throw a song on, it's pretty easy to find something
1:07
that'll work and I don't have to worry about copyright because it's my music. Plus, I make my
1:14
music open to everyone so there is no copyright. That way if you have a video and you would like
1:19
to use some of this music, feel free to. It's mainly just beats in the background, that way it's
1:25
good for like tutorials or any like web videos anything like that it's good for and I think it
1:32
does really well I like it I enjoy it so this new album is called lo-fi background beats it's a
1:39
little more chill than usual I want to go a little bit more chill than you know the average even
1:46
though it's been pretty calm lately I have the album done it's completed but it's not named I
1:52
have three tracks named. I need to come up with some names in this video. I do have my artwork
1:57
delivered. I'm going to go ahead and show you how I did all this. I must be a musical genius to make
2:02
my own music that I could put on Spotify, right? No, no music genius at all. I basically use Fiverr
2:12
I'll show you the person I recommend and we'll kind of go from there. Let's go ahead and dive
2:17
right in and give you a better idea of all of this. So here I am on Spotify and these are my
2:23
albums. The first album art I made myself and then I hired someone to make the last three. The first
2:30
one I just wanted to get on quickly and it's basically just two tracks so that's what I did
2:35
To give you an idea of the music I'll just play something really quick for like 30 seconds. If
2:41
don't want to hear it just skip ahead 30 seconds and that gives you a quick idea of the type of music that we're using here
3:23
and you can check it out more on spotify or the youtube channel if you'd like here we have my
3:29
youtube channel that i'm trying to get to 100 subscribers so if you want to help me out in this
3:34
video do me a favor smack that subscribe on that channel i don't ask for subscriptions often but
3:40
I'd really like it to 100 because 100 is a really nice mark on YouTube
3:44
And I just feel like it's been a goal I've had all year. And, you know, it's not really one of my main goals, but I would love to get it accomplished
3:53
So if you're interested in this type of music and want to check it out, do me a favor and subscribe
3:58
I'll have the links to all of this information down below so you can check it out
4:02
So how do we do this? We get a album. How do we get an album
4:07
Well, we purchase it. This is the person that I use. Busy Bang Man is really good
4:14
I've used him a lot. He's created all of my music and he has a five star rating
4:21
So you can see five stars. He can pretty much mix anything
4:25
So there's other types of music. You can kind of go through his information and see what you think
4:32
And again, you can listen to my catalog to get a good idea as well
4:36
So I really recommend him. he's great and for the album art i go with mk underscore blue he's really good and he comes up
4:45
with some awesome stuff that i don't have to worry about being copyrighted so for what i'm paying
4:50
here i think i pay like 10 bucks or so for an album art and i pay usually around 300 for an
4:58
album with fizzy i also made my own website to showcase the music a while ago streamlofi.com
5:05
because I couldn't believe the domain was available to start with. So this is what made it because people want to stream lo-fi music
5:15
Lo-fi stands for low fidelity, which is kind of like chill, relaxing beats
5:20
So I bought this up right away when I noticed it was available. It was probably one of the fastest domains that I've snagged
5:27
And I started the website. So with the website, I have my four albums here
5:33
and it says here 100% copyright free and yeah I link to my youtube channel and across the top
5:39
you listen to amazon itunes spotify I have a blog and a home so you must say wow you have all
5:47
your music on all these different platforms this must be a nightmare to do no there's one service
5:55
that you just need to go to that does it all for you you put all the information in you upload the
6:01
tracks and boom, you're good. And that's DistroKid. DistroKid is here. Here's a quick brief idea of my
6:09
stats. If I go to my music and we'll look into those more. If I go to my music, you could see
6:13
all my music and what services they are available on. DistroKid is not expensive. Here's a quick
6:20
window showing you what the prices look like because I'm not logged in on this window. So here
6:24
are the main things. So $20 a year, or you could do $36 a year. I forget what the big difference was
6:32
but the musician plus was definitely worth it for the extra $16, $36 a year to do all this stuff
6:40
That's not bad at all. What they'll do is they'll upload all your music on all these platforms and
6:45
basically give you the money from people listening to it It great There are some extras you can do when you upload music I don take any of the extras except one thing and I show you that later But basically for me
6:59
my extras cost me a dollar a song per year, and that's so it shows up on Shazam or anything like
7:06
that. If anyone tries to search it, they will get a pop-up saying what the song is so they can go to
7:11
the artist. I feel like discovery is very important, and it's worth a dollar per song per year
7:16
Kevin Smack, you must be killing it. You must be making millions of dollars. No, I'm not
7:21
I'm not making much money on this. It's kind of a new thing, and it takes a while, and I know it does
7:26
So I'm fine with that. If I click on my bank, I can see what has happened
7:31
So total, I've made $120, which isn't bad because music will grow in time
7:37
It takes time to get going, and the website is technically still in the sandbox
7:42
so it's doing pretty good, especially with my blog posts. I started adding blog posts a few months ago because I was like, why don't I have blog posts on here
7:49
I can get people to come here and then I can get them to go over to my music on Spotify
7:55
At least that's the idea. And I have 11 so far. I haven't went too crazy, but I've started it
8:03
It is pretty competitive. I have one or two articles doing pretty well
8:07
And the other ones are just kind of hoping they rank someday. So why would why stream lo-fi
8:12
Why do that? Well, if you haven't heard, Twitch and YouTube, especially YouTube, have been very hard to play music in the background
8:20
You need to use copyright-free music. There are some copyright-free music services out there
8:25
Sometimes you pay for them, which are royalty-free services. But a lot of times you can get them copyright-free
8:32
But then later on, they might change your mind and start charging and copyright. Well, I was sick of this happening, so what I did was I made my own music
8:40
Also, Twitch has recently been cracking down on copyright-free music. That's a place where people game, and a lot of people watch
8:48
Hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people are watching people play games, and they're playing copyrighted music
8:55
Well, all of a sudden, that changed. Now they need copyright-free music
8:59
I'm hoping one day some people start playing this type of music on the stream
9:04
There is someone else that does this, Harris Heller, and he was ahead of the ball
9:09
He got it out before I did by probably like four or five or six months
9:15
And last I saw, which was probably about, I don't know, five months ago, he was making
9:20
about $60,000 a month just from Spotify. That's pretty insane to think about
9:26
And all he did was go on Fiverr and hire every single one that's available to make tracks
9:33
And he just kind of put a huge catalog there. He was one of the first and, you know, that's how it gets there
9:41
But now, you know, eventually people are going to get sick of listening to his music because, you know, you can only listen to certain songs so many times and maybe they'll try something
9:48
like my service. Another example of someone doing this right is Lo-Fi Calf
9:55
I'm going to have it muted, but basically it's some cool things here
9:59
It shows how many people are listening and it shows retro pictures and they actually change
10:04
I have it muted right now just because I don't know if this is copyright free or not
10:09
So I want to be careful. But you can basically change the radio station, play pause, tweet it
10:14
Kind of cool things. Neat little system they have built here. And it kind of went viral
10:19
And this picture is always changing. So if I hit G, it's going to change the background picture to something else
10:27
And this was just another way of taking something and adding your own spin on it
10:32
A lot of times when you add your own spin on it, it makes it a lot cooler, but it doesn't always succeed unless you kind of get a boost
10:41
So I just want to show you that as well before we get started. So now I have the album
10:45
I have the artwork. And what do I need next? I need to have some song names
10:52
Don't worry. There's a website for that. This website will give you some song names
10:58
you can search lo-fi song generator and use relaxed because it's kind of like relaxed music
11:04
how i like to do is leave it on all genres and i like to generate and i like to write these down
11:10
or copy these but i don't use usually the recommended ones so looking through this i see
11:19
lazy spring that's not too bad of one uh forgot about your spirit
11:25
you could see lighten up night so we could say i might do this i might say lighten up spring
11:39
so i kind of like take some from the other summer chill jazz i'll do things like that just by kind
11:48
of combining the words so they give me the good ideas and then i can do that if you find this here
11:55
you could always click check unique to see if they are unique. And then the next thing is I need to
12:00
listen to the music and figure out what song I think goes with those words. Sometimes it's tough
12:08
if you're not in the mood. You got to definitely be in the mood for it. Once I get going, I feel
12:12
my creativity starts coming out. And then I try to close my eyes, listen to the song
12:18
and think about what it could mean to me. So here's my tracks here
12:25
I'll go with one that I've already done. Lost Oasis. We'll do that
12:32
And I'll just play this and you can kind of listen to it
12:36
and see if you think of anything along those lines or not
12:42
You can always skip down below. I'll put timestamps so you can go to the next area if you don't want to listen to this track
15:39
I hope you enjoyed that track
16:02
That was one of my favorites so far on this CD. Sometimes it takes a little while to figure out which ones you like
16:09
but I heard that one right away and I was like I really like this. If you were listening let me
16:14
know what you would name that song. You could have a completely different idea of what the name would
16:19
have been and it's just insane like I listen to it now and I'm like yeah I see that I could probably
16:25
see something else named it too you know there's so many different interpretations
16:30
What I'm going to do now is I'm going to go through and listen to these nine tracks and
16:36
try to name them and put them in order. If I come to a name right away, I usually put them in the
16:42
one, three, and five spot because the first five tracks I feel are usually really good. And I also
16:47
try to put a decent track in track 10. And then if I don't feel really confident on the tracks
16:55
those would be 11 and 12 as I have 12 tracks for this album. And then what we'll do is we will show
17:02
you the upload process, how to get it set up on DistroKids, and how to prepare to release it to
17:09
Spotify and Apple Music, but mainly Spotify. We are back. I have my album all named Rigo. It took
17:17
a little while. SEO guy in me wants to have certain words in me like study, silence, rain, sleep
17:25
you know, certain words. I didn't go over the top, but I did a good amount of them. Also on this tool
17:31
while we're showing you, you can click check if unique and it'll let you know, but make sure you
17:35
check the song names because sometimes they just have one or two of the words. They don't have the
17:39
full title. You can also favor it and copy it that way. So now that we have it, what do we do
17:45
Well, we need to go ahead and upload it and get it ready to be published. So we're going to go to
17:51
DistroKids because that's what they do. Before we jump into that, let me show you some stats real
17:56
quick to give you an idea if i go to my music here it all is we can go to stats and this is
18:04
kind of like a quick display we can see itunes amazon don't do well on them at all apple music
18:12
do a little better yeah not much but yeah here and there some people listen but mainly spotify
18:20
is where it goes. I have some crazy weird trends on there, but at times it comes and goes. This I
18:28
tried doing a 24-7 streaming, and that's why it was up here, but I did that on my YouTube channel
18:35
Found out it wasn't working, so I stopped. You can also go to Stream Lo-Fi and get access
18:41
and here you're going to be taken to your Spotify artist area. It's going to say your top songs
18:47
seven day listens you go into music you can see how that's all going some songs you know these two
18:55
songs obviously have done the best the last 28 days it always changes you go to your audience
19:01
and listens see we had some spikes few new followers we're up to 50 followers are slow but they kind of like were going for a while
19:15
and then they slowed down a lot. Engagement, how you're doing. Not much has happened
19:24
so I'm not expecting to see much on this area right now
19:28
even though we do have some nice peaks and stuff where something might have started going
19:34
like a little viral for a moment. And, you know, Spotify might be like
19:39
check this out. And then it probably didn't perform real well, and then they pulled back
19:42
So now what we're going to do is click upload and we're going to set this up and upload to all of these services at once
19:52
Snapchat beta. I think we will leave that alone. Now I have this settings for myself
19:58
I'll kind of give you an idea. You do the number of songs. We have 12 tracks
20:03
Previous release. No artist band name. Stream lo-fi. That's us. We have that name
20:11
Already an artist. You're all set. You're all set. release date. All right, so this is where things get a little rough with release date
20:21
You want to give it at least a week lead way because it's going to take a while to
20:26
get through everything. It will hit Spotify and Apple Music usually first. They're pretty good at
20:32
it However it good to give it some lead up because you can do this thing supposedly that really good for spotify that i never got accepted for but we try it again basically you pick one of
20:44
your tracks and you write about it and they will look at it and if they choose it they will go ahead
20:51
and promote it extra and it'll boost everything up i've been very unlucky but anytime comes to
20:57
typing something and requesting something, I don't usually do so good. Let's go ahead and get
21:02
going. When is the release date? That's a very good question. I kind of would like it before
21:07
the holidays, but I also like to do two weeks. Oh, that's rough. I really would like to release
21:13
on the 25th, but that's Thanksgiving. So let's go with the 26th. Release time, we'll do 8 a.m
21:23
Do I want to let people pre-order? You know, Amazon doesn't really matter because I don't get many
21:27
things on Amazon and I'm not really looking for that album artwork we have this so let's drag that
21:33
over lo-fi background beats looks good album title make sure you spell it correctly you changing this stuff is a nightmare usually you have to like
21:51
remove it and re-add it make sure you have everything right before you submit it album
21:56
price. I don't sell many albums. I usually go a little cheaper though. Because you know if someone
22:03
wants to buy it for eight bucks that's awesome. Select genre. This is going to be where it's your
22:08
own stuff. So you're going to put that in. They don't have a lo-fi section which is really kind
22:14
of annoying. So what we usually choose is new age and an alternative. Now I'm going to go and put
22:26
the tracks in. So I just copied and removed the number. You want to add a feature artist. We're
22:32
going to say no because it's just me. Add version info. No. We're going to choose the file. No. I
22:40
wrote this song or manage. Yes. I'll just fill in Kevin stats there. Explicit lyrics. No. Is this a
22:48
radio edit? No. Instrumental. This song contains lyrics. No. This song is instrumental and contains
22:55
no lyrics. Preview clip start time. Let streaming service decide. Sounds good. Track price 99 cents
23:04
There we go. What we'll do is I'm going to go through all of them and fill this out and then
23:10
I'm going to submit it and hope for the best. So let me go ahead and do that and I'll be back
23:18
We are back. So I've done that. Now I'm at the end. These are some extras you can add on
23:23
YouTube content ID. You can do this, but I'm using copyright free music, so I don't really
23:30
care about that extra. I don't use this because it's an extra $8. Social phone numbers. I don't
23:40
use that. Loudless normalizer. I don't use that. Shazam and iPhone Siri. This I do use
23:49
because I think it's important for discovery. It's up to you. You can kind of take it as it is
23:56
It is kind of a reoccurring charge on your music every year
24:02
you know, a dollar a song. But if you sell one, that pretty much almost makes up for it
24:07
At the bottom, you can also, you have to also check these up here just to let them know
24:13
I selected YouTube Music as a store. I won't email us if you've uploaded the music
24:18
that's fine i recorded this music and authorized to sell it and click royalties i'm not using any
24:24
other artist names on whatever i have agreed yes so now what i'm gonna do is i'm gonna go ahead and
24:29
click done when i do click done it's gonna upload all the tracks and hopefully everything goes smooth
24:36
so now i wait for this to go through sometimes it fails and it doesn't actually fail you just
24:45
gonna have to wait. You have to make sure your file sizes are all the right size. Working with
24:50
the two Fiverr gigs I've talked about, the album art and the music delivered are all correct
24:56
so you don't have to worry about that. And we're ready to go live. I've changed the date actually
25:03
to the 25th because I want to be able to listen to it that day with my family, so I have done that
25:12
Let's go ahead and wait for this to upload. Boom. We are set up. Our album went smooth. It says that was easy, wasn't it
25:51
It is because I'm pretty good at this process. I have everything typed up to remind myself
25:56
So very excited for this and we're ready to go. We will have a page we can share this album on
26:04
I will probably release this video the day it goes live. So if you want to check out the new
26:09
album in Spotify. I'll have that down below as well. That way everything's set up. Again
26:14
all the links are down below. There is a distro kids affiliate link. It is 7% off if you choose
26:21
to use it and it gives me a small portion as well. So I'd appreciate that. All the others are just
26:27
Fiverr links that I've recommend and I think is really good idea. So next, what I'm going to do
26:34
is I'm going to start working on making some YouTube videos for it. I'm going to go the
26:38
simplistic route. I've been making them very complicated and they haven't really been performing
26:42
very well. So I'm just going to probably go really easy with them, bang them out quickly
26:48
and then trickle them out over the next two weeks up until the release of the full album on Spotify
26:53
After the album is released, I'll go back over the videos and add the Spotify and probably Apple
26:59
Music links to each of the videos as well. And there you have it. That's how I make some money
27:05
off of Spotify. Not that I really make a lot. Like I said, I spend more than I make, but it's only
27:10
been seven months. It takes a while to build something up like this. And I'm hoping for
27:16
success in the future. And I want to thank you so much for watching this video. If you have any
27:20
questions, please leave them down below or feel free to join my discord. And we're always talking
27:25
about everything there. I'll help you the best I can. Thanks for the view
